Mara Lindqvist
Weddings above the treeline
I started photographing weddings in 2014 after eight years as a staff photographer at a Montana daily. I still work like a reporter: I arrive early, learn everyone’s names and watch for the moments people miss while they are inside them.
I photograph every wedding myself, with a second photographer for larger days, and I edit every gallery by hand. Most of the weddings I cover have fewer than 80 guests, and about a third are elopements on a trail, a ridge or a lakeshore.
Every summer I spend six weeks in Switzerland and Austria photographing elopements, and between seasons I photograph the mountains without anyone in them. A small edition of those landscapes is for sale as prints.
Based in Bozeman, Montana.
Experience: Photographing weddings since 2014; Eight years as a newspaper staff photographer; Insured for venues and public lands permits

From couples
Mara photographed our whole day without us ever noticing a camera. The gallery made my dad cry.
We hiked two hours to a lake for our ceremony and Mara carried the flowers the whole way.
